About Us

Dom Buckley Snr

The business was started by Dom in 1961, almost 53 years ago. However it was not until 1970 that his first Ford Escort Mk I arrived to compete in the Scottish Rally Championship. He competed to a high level in this competition and it was from this hobby that Dom Buckley Motorsport IRS started. Dom first travelled to Indonesia in 1984 and from then on the business has been recognised worldwide.

Dom Buckley Jnr

Dom joined the business straight from school in 1983. Around this time work in the Far East started and as with his father, work took him all over the World. Dom drove to an extremely high standard and was a driver with Volkswagen. However, work came first and his driving was restricted to an occasional outing. Dom moved on from the company in 2013

Neil Buckley

Neil started in the business in 1988, also straight from school. His following years closely cloned that of Dom’s, working abroad for a considerable part of the year and workshop in between. Neil gained a vast knowledge of the Focus WRC cars when working on events with M-Sport from 1999 until 2003. This formed a close link with M-Sport that remains until this day. In 2003 he won the British Rally Championship Gp.N in a Mitsubishi Lancer with co-driver Doug Redpath. Again when the Stobart Motorsport Rally Team was formed Neil gave up competing to concentrate on the business, keeping the high standards expected from Dom Buckley Motorsport to the fore.

Past

The Golden Wonder backed Metro 6R4, driven by Kenny Wood and Peter Brown, was the first customer car to be ran from the Dom Buckley Motorsport workshops at Hassington. It won its first outing, the Sprint Tyres Trossachs Rally, the 1985 Scottish Championship final round. This was the first victory for a “Clubman spec” 6R4. Kenny and Peter went on to win the Scottish Rally Championship the next year. The subsequent sale of this car to an Indonesian buyer led to the business working in the Far East for over 16 years, this was the first of many countries Dom Buckley Motorsport has travelled to with great success.
The first customer we ran with a full WRC car was Brian Bell from Skegness, who remained a valued customer for 20 years. He campaigned various Ford Focuses in the ANCRO and BTRDA championships with numerous rally wins.

In 2004 the haulage company Stobart approached them to set up a new team called Stobart Motorsport, This team would compete in the British Rally Championship with a pair of 02 WRC focuses and a Group N Subaru. This was a huge logistical challenge. In 2005 Stobart signed Matthew Wilson and Mark Higgins to drive the WRC cars on the BRC and selected WRC events with Lorna Smith and Barry Clark driving the Group N cars on the BRC. British Superbike team owner Paul Bird joined the team with his 02 WRC Focus to contest the ANCRO rally championship and selected BRC rounds. The combination of drivers, cars and team produced a very successful season for Stobart Motorsport, winning the BRC Championship, BRC Group N, BRC Ladies Champion, BRC Junior Champion and also Paul Bird won the ANCRO Championship.   This undoubtedly was our biggest challenge to date with 4 service trucks and over 40 men at each BRC event.
