Strong Start to The Year for Stone
The 2014 Reis Tarmac Championship kicked off in Wales as it did in 2013 with the Tour of Epynt.
John Stone and Carl Williamson had taken part in Stones local event The North West Stages as a pre championship warm up and although the retired due to a turbo failure they were happy with the pace they were setting.
The day got off to a bad start for the Skoda WRC pairing when they booked into the first control late and were awarded with a 10 second road penalty. Although they set 6th fastest stage time on SS1 they were lying 21st overall and had a big task on their hands to get back up the leaderboard to get any kind of result.
This didn’t deter Stone and he immediately climbed his way up the leaderboard with 4th and 5th fastest times on the next 2 stages leaving him in 6th overall. Stage 4 was cancelled so with 3 stages left the Legend Fires backed crew were 6th and 3rd in class B14.
Stone set 3 consistently quick times on these 3 final stages. Fifth quickest on all 3 saw him jump ahead of John Indri and Simon Mauger into 4th overall where he would finish overall. A very good 1st round for Stone and Williamson and they also claimed 2nd in class. They will carry great confidence into the 2nd round in the Isle of Man in May
